The process of finding out a credit score used to be quite a slow one. Now with the age of the Internet, it is generally quick and simple to do so.

There are countless websites and companies that offer credit rating services. These can range from third party websites that use lenders algorithms and criteria to determine a score, to major credit bureaus and agencies that provide recognised ratings that are used by third parties and lenders. Other websites simply ask participants to answer a series of questions from which a credit score is given between a certain range. These are really meant only as a guideline and not a definitive answer to a person’s credit score.

The simplest way to find out credit scores is by visiting one of the main credit agencies such as Experian or Equifax. By registering on their online portals a credit score will be given almost immediately along with credit history and ratings for an individual. There may be a small one-off charge to view credit information, depending on which credit company or bureau it is being requested from. Others offer subscription based accounts on which a user can view updated credit entries continuously on a regular basis. These services tend to be very useful for the credit conscious or any person looking to improve their credit rating. In addition old entries which may not now be valid can be requested for removal, which in turn may have a positive effect on the credit rating.
