Credit scores has become big business. With credit being more and more a part of everyday society, people are becoming more aware of what their credit history is and what credit scores mean to them in every day life.
Understanding how credit works and how credit bureaus use their data in your credit files can be quite confusing, especially as all credit agencies use different algorithms and formula to determine a person’s credit score. Additionally the method in which the data is displayed is also non-uniform. Many people are unsure as to go about either interpreting the data or how to go about repairing their credit score and history.
With this in mind, many credit repair law firms have arisen in order to meet this growing demand. In fact adverts for these companies are now common in newspapers, magazines, radio and television.
So what do these credit repair law firms offer us? In a nutshell they provide solutions to all aspects of credit from education to credit restoration and verification. The lawyers are advertised to “help people successfully overcome their credit problems”. An assumption that may be made from this is that they may restore good history, which may be true; however there are certain aspects of a credit history that may be irreparable such as a bankruptcy entry that is only two years old (it must remain on a credit file for at least seven years).
By using credit repair law firm, the work that is undertaken by them may result in improving an individuals credit score which in turn will improve credit application success and gain better interest rates and terms. It is worth noting however much of the work done by a law firm can be done at a lower cost, or even free, by the borrower themselves if inclined to do so.
